File Faster, Pull Icons Off of Your Bills

I was reorganizing my file cabinet recently (after neglecting the project for many years and building up a severe organizational deficit.) I was getting all fired up and ready for making a word template for the folder tabs I would need, when laziness (and therefore invention) struck.

Why not just cut the cool colorful letter head off of one of the bills in each folder and slap that on there? I don't really care to define that 'comcast = cable bill' I know that.. I just want to come up with a tab that tells me what's in there.

Now I've got recognizable icons that generally match the thing I'm holding in my hand when I go to file the crap for my records. Yay!

That's freakin' brilliant. Simple, effective, cheap...I love it. The only problem, of course, is that if WE did that, Bex wouldn't get to use her label maker. Can't have that.

well, there are plenty of other tabs that are more like 'topics' that she could label make on.. (for instance in that pic, my taxes folders.. etc.)

That is the smartest thing I've ever seen. I'm gonna do that!!!

This is a great Idea!

This really is a great idea and could work well for a lot of people.

It's a great idea complete role reversal, a filing system based on pc style icons as opposed to the other way around, going to suggest we organise our files this way as well.
thanks a lot mate
I appreciate you..

Really good idea.

I just tried "cutting" an icon from a company websites, AT&T, and "pasted" it into a Word 2007 labels sheet (formatted for Avery 8167). It worked great and rescaled the icon appropriately.

That is an awesome idea, i will put into practice this weekend.

Such a simple idea too...

I love this idea. It's funny how you see something likle this and wonder why you didn't think of it yourself. It's so simple and useful. Thanks for sharing it.

Love the idea. For a while now, I have been using Avery 8167 return address labels to print out my folder labels for a cleaner look.

I love your icon idea. Combining the two ideas, I just tried "cutting" an icon from a company websites, AT&T, and "pasted" it into a Word 2007 labels sheet (formatted for Avery 8167). It worked great and rescaled the icon appropriately. I may be redoing my labels this weekend.

Thanks!

I'm twitchin' over here. :) I love the idea.. I can't wait to attack my filing cabinet.

I'm in the process of re doing my own files as well as those of my mothers. What a challenge. I'm motivated by little things like your icon labels........and hoping it gives me the push to finish this huge project.

Thanks for sharing!

Just plain cleaver.

You are really great dude.that's a really cool idea. i may use that in my own filing system.

What an amazing idea this is, I am glad I discovered your post here.
I was facing the same problem where I made printouts of the names on an A4 sheet, which I cur into individual labels and place them.
The letterhead seems more catchy to reach the Label at a glance and also has a much more positive effect due to the colorful looks with logos.

Sofi Kothari,

Oh the magic of logo branding ... and not a golden arch in sight!!

Hi, thank you for posting this. this idea is really smart. I hope you don't mind that I post this idea on my website (www.femtalks.com) to share with others. I also link it you your website.
great job!

What a great little system. You recognize where something should go immediately.

I should say that was quite innovative.. I am inspired.
