File Faster, Pull Icons Off of Your Bills

aaron's picture

I was reorganizing my file cabinet recently (after neglecting the project for many years and building up a severe organizational deficit.) I was getting all fired up and ready for making a word template for the folder tabs I would need, when laziness (and therefore invention) struck.

Why not just cut the cool colorful letter head off of one of the bills in each folder and slap that on there? I don't really care to define that 'comcast = cable bill' I know that.. I just want to come up with a tab that tells me what's in there.

Now I've got recognizable icons that generally match the thing I'm holding in my hand when I go to file the crap for my records. Yay!

What an amazing idea this

What an amazing idea this is, I am glad I discovered your post here.
I was facing the same problem where I made printouts of the names on an A4 sheet, which I cur into individual labels and place them.
The letterhead seems more catchy to reach the Label at a glance and also has a much more positive effect due to the colorful looks with logos.

Sofi Kothari,

Icon filing system

It's a great idea complete role reversal, a filing system based on pc style icons as opposed to the other way around, going to suggest we organise our files this way as well.

So..so sexy.

I'm twitchin' over here. :) I love the idea.. I can't wait to attack my filing cabinet.

Time Saver on Labels

Love the idea. For a while now, I have been using Avery 8167 return address labels to print out my folder labels for a cleaner look.

I love your icon idea. Combining the two ideas, I just tried "cutting" an icon from a company websites, AT&T, and "pasted" it into a Word 2007 labels sheet (formatted for Avery 8167). It worked great and rescaled the icon appropriately. I may be redoing my labels this weekend.

Thanks!
